From 12 August 2010, channel4.com/paralympics will be the voice of Channel 4's coverage of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Through its groundbreaking video and feature content, channel4.com/paralympics will leave no stone unturned in bringing elite sports fans the inside story on every single Paralympic sport event, as well as profiling the cream of ParalympicsGB and medal hopefuls.
And in the run up to 2012, the site will also host live streaming video from some of the most exciting Paralympic sport from across the globe; kicking off at the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships in Eindhoven on August 19th, hosted by Paralympian Ade Adepitan MBE.
Channel 4 acquired the broadcast rights to the London 2012 Paralympic Games in January 2010, and has pledged to cover key events in the run up to 2012 with more than 150 hours of live coverage during the Games themselves. In May 2010, Channel 4 commissioned sister agencies Zone and Public Zone to design and build the website and manage its content.
James Ballardie, Site Editor & Talent Blogger for the dedicated site, said: "It's high time disabled sport was thrust in to the spotlight. I can't think of anyone better equipped than Channel 4, Zone and Public Zone to deliver this unprecedented behind the scenes access to all the blood, sweat and tears that go in to winning a Paralympic gold medal."
Matt Locke, Acting Head of Cross Platform at Channel 4, said: "Zone and Public Zone's joint pitch offered us the best of both worlds - Zone's sport and editorial experience and Public Zone's track record working with public sector organisations including Channel 4. We've made a big commitment to covering disabled sport, and digital is a key part of our plans."
Jon Davie, Managing Director at Zone, said: "We have 20 years heritage in sports publishing and are incredibly excited by the opportunity of bringing this experience to the Paralympic Games. We'll be celebrating the achievements of elite athletes in a sport where Britain is a world-leader, using a full range of editorial tools including video, functionality and social media platforms."
Jonathan Simmons, Managing Director at Public Zone, said: "The London 2012 Paralympic Games is exactly the kind of project that Public Zone was founded to work on - the opportunity to deliver world-class design, tech and content for clients who are working to improve people's lives. The Paralympic Games will be an amazing event, and we're thrilled to be working with Channel 4 and our friends at Zone."
