Channel 4 invites viewers into the wacky world of fitness fanatic personal trainers in one of London's most extraordinary gyms for brand new series The Body Shop (w/t).
The four-part series, made by Crackit Productions, will go behind the scenes of one of the country's craziest gyms, Gymbox, and follow a crack team of four extraordinary personal trainers, as they battle it out to transform the physiques of those in dire need of their help.
In each programme, Gymbox personal trainers will take on new recruits - men and women who feel they're in the last chance saloon to change their bodies for the better. Can these elite trainers, famous for sculpting the most A-List of bodies, give their new members the biggest physical makeover of their lives?
In an industry where image is everything, egos go head-to-head on a daily basis. Cameras will follow the trainers' every effort to kick their new protégés into shape quickly, whilst fly-on-the-wall filming will see them vying for business and competing to get their latest, craziest workouts listed on the much sought-after gym rotas.
These trainers are famed for their unique and inventive approaches to getting a lean, mean body, with classes such as ‘Boobercise', ‘Cougar Conditioning', ‘Baywatch Body' and even Lady Gaga dance routines. Nothing is off limits in proving that getting fit can be fun - as long as members are prepared for some serious sweat.
And if viewers think they can simply sit and watch from the comfort of their sofas, munching on a packet of crisps, then they'd be wrong. Each episode will included a targeted mini-workout designed to blitz the body parts people struggle with the most - from bingo wings to muffin tops - in a three minute workout which can also be downloaded after each episode to construct an effective four-part routine for viewers to do at home whenever they like.
The Body Shop (w/t) has been commissioned Features Commissioning Editor Kate Teckman. It will be made by Executive Producer Elaine Hackett, and will air in early 2012.
Kate Teckman says: "Say bye bye thunder thighs as we launch possibly the most outrageous and entertaining exercise series ever. So dig out your spandex, we're going to make you sweat."
Elaine Hackett says: "We can't wait to introduce Britain to the infectiously fun world of Gymbox and the wacky and wonderful people who work and work out there. As someone who thought they'd seen it all, I can honestly say that until you've witnessed the ‘Yummy Bummy Workout', ‘Gone Gaga' and ‘Boobercised', you ain't seen nothing yet!"
